“Scintillator-free electron detection and counting using single-photon avalanche diodes,” T. Y. Huang, C. H. Liu, M. H. Lu, J. Y. Wu, S. D. Lin*, IEDM-2024, 27-1 (December 2024).
Abstract – Single electrons counting has been demonstrated with SPAD without scintillation. An electron detection probability of ~70% at 10-keV electron is achieved, corresponding to the lowest measureable electrical current ~0.9 aA. A parameter-free EDP model is developed. This work shows the potential of SPADs for high-speed and ultralow-current electron microscopy imaging.
